Answers :

If you need to screw the band adjustment in that far chances are that there is no friction material left on the band. If you keep driving like that the band will begin to eat into the drum and shed fine metal (like what happens to worn brake shoes when they eat up the drum) which can and will contaminate the remainder of the internal hydraulics and do even more damage. Nothing worthwhile you can do to fix the problem short of replacing it with a scrapyard unit (including converter) or having yours rebuilt.
