Sadly, Mark 8s are famous for a failing air-mixer-door-arm failure. Some of the Mark 8 enthusiast web sites discuss it, some with suggestions. Basically (if in fact this is your case) the dash needs to be removed and the arm fixed/replaced, tho one suggestion was to reach up under the dash (pretty far) exactly at the left of the glove box. If you can find it and if you can move it, you can confirm the issue WHILE getting the temperature you are looking for... tho sorta an art. Sure, it could be any number of things, but the "door" issue is a common one. (I find the technique gives me heat in the winter, otherwise there is none...) Good Luck.
Maybe its the blower motor fan.
