Having problems with your 1996 Nissan Sentra ?

I have a 1995 nissan sentra 1.6. When in 5th gear it does not stay in 5th gear it slips out. When i keep it in by hand it drives fine. This tells me the problem could be with the mechanism keeping it in gear and not the 5th gear itself. I also have a problem finding a leak in my power steering hydrolic line that is leaking fluid. Please help. thanks.

\012Looks like your slip ring gear in the transmission has lost the gear teeth in the overdrive.\012The repair would be to pull down the transmission and replace that ring gear, it is made of brass thats why the teeth somehow erodes when you try to force it.\012
\012Before anything else, better check also the cable shifter, the shifting cable might only need adjustment and your mechanic can adjust it.\012
\012That Sentra B14 have that problem of hydraulic high side power steering hose leaking, The problem would be in the hose crimping, over the years of vibration, the crimp seem to loosen and fluid would leak in there.\012
\012You have to replace the high side power steering hose w/ valve in it!\012
\012Hope that solve your problem!\012
\012Thanks for asking Fixya!
