Having problems with your 1996 Nissan Sentra ?

Emission control sign , Nissan Sentra 1996 1.6 GXE

\015 Hi,\015\012My sentra is imported from usa in 1998. I'm from The Netherlands in Europe. Car was problemfree but now it starts to stotter between 40 and 60 miles and the checklight was on, reading my nissanbook it told me that it was an emission control problem. Took it to 2 different repair centers and they told me it was not possible to measure it because they needed americam software. Finally found a guy who was able to check the needed values and told me it was the airpressuresystem. He fixed it. Took my car home and after 40 miles he started doing it again. The checklight went on again the day after. Funny thing is that when I take te overdrive of ( button on the clutch) the car seems to drive more smoothly. I really hope you can help me. Love my car and in my country its the only Nissan Sentra, so proud of it. mechanics here are shy tot do something beside maintance because they don't know much about this type and charge me alot of money for nothing. My milage is 169.000. Every year he is tested on performance en gets the service its needs, new oil other fluids etc. Hope for an answer, thanks. Hi and welcome to FixYa,

May I offer an alternative approach? On your next fill, change fuel to a higher octane rating (just once). The idea is to burn off carbon deposits inside the combustion chamber, the cat converter, exhaust system. The only hitch would be that the engine would run a little bit hot than before. Additionally, you can remove the air filter and spray injector cleaner while revving the engine. The exhaust would spill out black smoke and carbon dust particles. This way, the air passageway would be clean (even partially), the sensors along the way would also be cleaned, and generally the air route. Thereafter, drive the car aggressively on a long stretch of open road.

Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa. Happy Holidays.
The correct amount of fuel is not supplied to the engine will be cause for the above problem.try to check the fuel supply system.thank you
