Having problems with your 1996 Volkswagen Golf ?

96 Golf 2.0GTI 8v knocking noise from rear when accelerating

\015 I have noticed a loud knocking noise coming from the rear passenger side of the car. this only use to happen after going over a bumpy surface (bumps warning you of roundabout ahead) but has started doing it more often while traveling at high speeds (ie motorway driving) and normally when the road has got a bit bumpy. It doesn't happen while i am driving over the bumps, it only happens when i try and accelerate afterwards and it feels like the car loses power (either that or its the fact I'm too scared to put my foot down as the noise is so loud and worrying). I can only describe it as a loud knocking/rattling noise which seems to come from the rear of the car on passenger side. It doesn't happen when im driving around the city and does happen after going over speed bumps. Any help/advice would be gratefully received.\015 Posted / edited by AnonymousUser on : 12-11-2018

Answers :

Its probably your bump stops. the vw ones are very soft. i bought ford escort (the shape after the xr3) ones and cut them a little down to fit. i think the noise is either your shock touching or the sound of the tire scraping the body of the car. hope this helps.
