Having problems with your 1997 Cadillac DeVille ?

Loses qt of oil per week. No leak shows underneath car and does not smoke

It can easily burn that much in a 100 miles without seeing any smoke.
If you check the spark plugs you may find evidence.
It can also leak while the engine is running and not when it is off. Most Northstar engines leak to some degree.
Park the car with newspaper or cardboard under the car to make sure you have no leak. If no leak is found you will need a engine cylinder leak down test run and some other tests to determine the cause of the oil consumption, the reason you see no smoke is that it is burned off in the catalytic converter unless the amount of oil is really excessive like a quart or more every 100 miles or so. You do not mention the miles driven and this is a very important piece of info. 1 Quart per 1000 miles is not excessive for any but the newest cars, the Northstar engines series does consume oil, so this would be acceptable.
