Having problems with your 1997 Ford Explorer AWD ?

1997 explorer, awd, 8cyl replaced starter and starter solenoid but i still get one click from the starter, then nothing

Does the solenoid engage by moving the starter motor armature forward to engage with the flywheel edge and if does the click happen just as the contact points at the end of travel make electrical contact to cause the starter to turn. Follow the the thick cables all the way to and from the battery to the starter contacts. Look for any corrosion at joints or breaks in the cable between engine and chassis. If the starter and solenoid are working fine and cables are OK then the only issue is the battery. A quick check, pt the lights on at full beam and try start the car and if the lights dim the current flow looks OK. If the lights do not show ant signs of dimming this is a sign of bad cables and or connection Another check is to ask someone to help jump start you. They should clamp their negative jump lead to the engine block and not the negative terminal of the battery. If the car starts stop it and now do the jump start with their negative jump lead on the battery negative terminal. If the car fails to turn over this is sign that return lead from the engine block is bad Batteries can look good if you just measure the voltage but a battery has to be able to supply that voltage at over 100amps, hence the heavy duty cable connections. If you were able to get a jump start on all occasions then your battery is at fault having a low charge or damaged cells. Have your battery checked for function and if it OK then it has not been getting the appropriate level of charge from the alternator. When the engine is running put a voltmeter across the battery terminals. Switch every electrical thing you have on. If the alternator is healthy all these extra loads will not upset its voltage output one iota
Does the motor spin ?? take starter out,,take wide flat head stick it between the teeth,& see if u can turn the motor over or get the metric socket for the crank bolt & turn it from there,,((it is easy if the spark plugs are out))
