Answers :

Is it still arcing around the plugs and wires?
If so, then you either got them dirty, or you have the plug gap way too wide.
You really don't need to make the plug gap more then .028" no matter what the manual says.
Check it at night for arcing still.
It is it oily, then steam clean it, because oil will collect dust that will let it arc.

After that, it is a question of timing and mixture.
Check timing with a timing light, and you want it to be about 5 degrees advanced.
With mixture, since it uses too much gas, it could be a temperature, mass air, or O2 sensor.
Check these with an ohmmeter, bad ones usually have 0 or infinite resistance, while good ones are somewhere between that.
While idling unplug the alternator and if it smooths out replace it(has a short), if no change while idling unplug the egr valve if it smooths out replace it, if no change on either replace your idle air control valve.
