Having problems with your 1997 Hyundai Accent ?

Can not read ecm code for emission check in GA

\015 The car runs great and has no check engine light on. The CEL comes on during initial start as it should, then goes out. In GA, they need to make sure their are no codes stored for the emissions test, to renew your license plates. The reader was hooked up, but they could not read any codes or anything. We took it to two other places, same result. We disconnected the battery and the ECM connector and checked the continuity of the harness per the wiring diagram in the repair manual. Its ok. Put another 150 miles on the car and had it retested, still can't read codes. Bad ECM? Common problem? Any info would help. Answers :

Normally if you can't get a reading from the ecm the ecm is dead, and goes to default mode meaning it will run ok but is at base timing and won't kick in to closed loop having the 02 sensor controlling fuel and timing, they did this because if the past if the ecm failed the car was a pull toy so you sat on the side of the road so the ecm could be bad. You could have someone do a pin out on the ecm but it would take more time than it would cost to replace the ecm.
