Since march you should have had it fixed by now but if not
\015\012Its either the selector shaft /ball/spring ,or the sincro unit has jamed in to 5gear which is the input shaft and so get it checked out by a Toyoto garage
Hi Becka,
\015\012It's a common problem and you can find loads of stuff out on the net for this. It's usually caused by people resting their hands on the gear lever. Basically it will need a new '5th gear sync and hub' I found all this out when I had a Rav4 and had a similar problem. I went on the Toyota Owners Club Forums and got loads of advice on there. I also bought the parts for it to be fixed, but then ended up selling the Rav and the guy who bought it didn't want the parts. So I still have them!!! I paid £300 for the parts from a Toyota man on the forum. (but am selling them at half that price!) And I am told that the fix itself can be done without removing the gear box and is quite easy to do so if you have a good mechanic shouldn't be too costly!
\015\012Have a look on the toyota owners club forums for some advice, or if you want e-mail me and I will send you some links etc. My email is [email protected] or [email protected]
\015\012Best of luck
