Having problems with your 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee ?

When you shift into gear from park, our Jeep jerks a bit. We have it up for sale and potential buyers are afraid its the transmission that is going. Is that always the case, is there something we can check for rather than paying a mechanic to tell us something simple.

Answers :

Are you shifting into drive when its cold and the RPM's are high? If so the jolt is normal. This is pretty normal thing to happen. But since its happening How big are the jolts? is it something that just started. Cause thats not so much a sign as i drive a 96 jeep cherokee and if i just hop in and go it will give a little bit of shake in the vehicle. If the car is warm this is never a problem. After all it is a suv not a car. If the transmission on the vehicle was going you would probably have slippage into gear more then a jolt. \015\012

Its only the transmision taking up the slack of the fluid drive.a tip is to allways have your foot hard on the brake when changing into gear(safety factor) now if it were a limo, that would not be right......
