Hmmm.. well the galant has an ECU (engine control unit) that controls timing. Pulling a spark plug wire should have set a code for misfire and the computer may have tried to adjust, accomodate. However when you returned teh wire and ran the engine it should have recalibrated back. The cars do have a "limp" mode that when it detects issues that could be catastrophic it alters the idle, speed, etc of teh car to allow it to continue to run but with minimal damage. This is called "limp" mode because it allows you to slowly drive the car with decreased performance to a service location. If the car is running and driveable to short distances I suggest going to your local autoparts store and having them read the codes.. YOU write them down so you can diagnose, and then have them CLEAR all codes. If the car is stuck in limp mode this should reset the drive cycle and help. If clearing it doesnt help the ECU may be stuck or failing. From your initial comment about the car not turning off Im afraid it sounds like the ECU. The ECU controls the ignition to the engine, etc.
