Having problems with your 1997 Nissan Pathfinder ?

Won't pass emission test. Code P-1447 is what someone found to be wrong with it. Is this a major problem?

Your EVAP system is not working properly.
\015\012It is defidently something that you will not be able to fix yourself because of the tools that are needed. What you can do though is lift up the hood and look for a green cap. Follow the hoses that come from that cap and see if you find something wrong like cracks, tears, or something not connected. And make sure your gas cap is on tighly. If you spot nothing wrong, then you will have to take it to an actual mechanic
Okay, I have figured this out finally after a few attempts. I am listing repair in steps.

1. Check Purge lines under the rear pass quarter panel going into the charcoal canister box.
( if there are bits of charcoal in it do the following.)
2. go to the hood and pull the purge line off the metal line on firewall. ( disconnect it from metal line)
3. go to pass front fender disconnect purge line from hardline there too! DO NOT DISCONNECT THE GAS LINE .
4. start under the hood, Spray WD40 into the line a few times then spray 150psi of compressed air into the line until it clears.
5. This took me a long time to clear this line. Do not stop till it blows 100% freely. Go to pass. fender and blow towards back of vehicle ( make sure your on the purge line. Have someone go to the rear to confirm. ( you could damage other components if you don't)
6. replace charcoal canister ( its faulty) and go through the remainder of the lines doing the same but without wd40.

i had about 1 liter of charcoal throughout my system. Its important not to put the bad canister back on.
