Having problems with your 1997 Nissan Pickup ?

HAVE A 1997 NISSAN PICKUP. WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY THE TRUCK STARTED TO LOOSE SPEED AND WHEN I ACCELERATED THE ENGINE WOULD NOT REV. OR NOTHING. WHEN I PULLED TO THE SHOULDER THE ENGINE WAS SHAKING AND TRYING TO SHUT OFF. FINALLY IT DIED. I STARTED THE TRUCK, BUT IT WOULD ONLY SHAKE A TURN OFF ( THE ENGINE) IS IT THE THROTTLE SENSOR OR THE MAF? ANY ANSWERS WOULD BE GREATLY APRECIATED. THANKS.

Sounds like a fuel problem to me. check on the fuel rack for a valve that looks exactly like a tire valve, turn your ignition key to 'on' position, then take a nail and push in on the tire looking valve{caution!!!} wear protective glasses as the fuel will shoot up into your eyes if fuels going to fuel rack!! if no fuel comes out, then suspect 1st bad fuel filter. then bad fuel pump,if not that, then bad fuel pressure regulator. if you have problem locating the fuel valve release, follow the fuel rail on top of the motor until you locate the pressure release valve[that's what you're looking for. thank you for choosing fixya.com
I'd start with a fuel pressure test. You may have a plugged filter, or fuel pump failing, but I wouldn't start changing parts until I confirmed proper fuel pressure. Repair shop should be able to do it in about 10-15 minutes. You need to confirm whether it's a fuel or spark problem to narrow it down.
