Having problems with your 1997 Pontiac Sunfire ?
97 Pontiac Sunfire overheating
\015 The woman has a 97 Pontiac Sunfire and its overheating. I checked the fan by putting a hot wire to it and it turned on. So the fan works. Next i checked the fuse with an ohm meter and it was fine too. Then i figured maybe it was the relay. I went out and bought one for $10 and tried it and still nothing. Fan didn't work. I lifted up the relay exposing the legs a little and check for power on each leg when the car was running and the temp was up. It had power on every leg except for the leg that ran to the fan. Could it be that both the old and new relay are bad? Maybe a sensor that is bad? But if its a bad sensor why would there be power on 3 of the 4 legs? and i did check the wire from the relay going to the fan to see if it was open (or broken) and it is not, the wire is fine. Thanks in advance for any help/info about this problem.\015
Check the engine coolant temp sensor, if the sensor is failing it will read always cold and not turn the fan on, if everything else looks and tested ok try the ECTS (engine coolant temp sensor)
