Having problems with your 1997 Saturn SL ?
Stick shifts very rough clutch i guess was not put on right and then it just snapped and now the stick is all loose and i dont know the problem

I would begin by removing the console, couple vertical screws at the rear and a couple horizontal at the front. Squeeze the shifter boot in and it comes loose from the console, you have to work it a bit front to rear to get it over the shifter and the parking brake handle. anyhow having done that take a good look at the shifter cable connections under the shifter. There are a couple of eyes there and the bushings fail fairly regularly on S series Saturns. If it is just the bushings you can buy repair kits on ebay for less than 20 bucks. However if the eyes have broken off the ends of the cables then you are going to have to get new cables. autozone and advance have these, not cheap but half the price at a dealer, if there are any dealers left.
