Having problems with your 1997 Saturn SL ?

1997 Saturn SL can't get it started Have replaced the fuel pump, fuel filter, spark plugs, CPS sensor and coolant sensor.

\015 Vehicle has been sitting for 6 years, only has 55,000 miles on it. Fuel pump was gummed up so replaced that with a new one, also changed the oil and installed a new fuel filter, put in new spark plugs and serpentine belt. Cranks over and has spark but does not seem to be getting fuel to the rails. Made the mistake of putting the gas and flooded the plugs. Looked online for a solution and was told to try a new Crank position sensor and or coolant sensor. Purchased both last night but have not had a chance to install yet. If this does not work, do you have any idea what I might check next.\015 Posted / edited by AnonymousUser on : 30-11-2020

Im not sure if this will completely solve your problem, but I will give it a try.

If the engine is flooded, crank the engine while holding the gas pedal to the floor for a couple minutes (or until it sputters or starts). This will get all of the extra gas out of the engine. Your plugs will be fine.

Check your fuel pressure with a test kit...they have a bleeder port that can purge the air out of the fuel rail. Its possible the old gas may have gone bad in 6 years. you may have to purge the old gas with fresh gas. couldnt hurt to put a couple bottles of fuel injector cleaner with your gas. Your injectors could be gummed up with varnish from the old gas.

Before you waste a bunch of money and time replacing good parts, get a code reader or have a mechanic hook up a code reader for you. This will help isolate your problems. If you are not getting a check engine light, the mechanic method may be better because their computers will give you more information than a handheld.
