Having problems with your 1998 Chevrolet S-10 Pickup ?

1998 S10 rear break lights and blinkers do not work.

\015 In my 1998 S10 the lower rear break lights and rear blinkers do not work. The top break light does. I have changed the break switch and check fuses. Auto Zone claims it might be multi purpose switch. I have found out thats a big fix and will have to be done by dealership. Is there anything else I can check that might be the problem?\015 Posted / edited by AnonymousUser on : 10-08-2020

I had a similar problem, and it was the turn signal lever assembly. Get rude with the lever testing the turn signals, and see if it works. Mine specifically had a problem in the very end of the lever. I swapped it out, and brake and turn signals worked like they were supposed to. Also, make sure you disconnect your battery before swapping the lever assembly, as your truck will enter into security mode when the ignition assembly is removed for access.
If the fuses or brake light switch were bad your third brake light would not work same with the multi purpose switch. you either have a wiring problem like some broken wires or the actual light sockets are bad. it is common with gm trucks that the circuit board for the tail lights melts and does not make contact.
