Having problems with your 1998 Ford Escort ?

We were going down the road -the car just stalled-the car was not missing it was running greet-fuel filter was changed about 6000 mi back-the car turns over but won't start.

It sounds like the coil died. Or you ran out of gas. Check a few things out, check the oil, some older fords had a switch that would shut off the fuel pump if the oil got low. next check to see if you have spark, Pull a plug out and reconnect it to it's wire, rest it on metal, crank it over and see if it sparks. If it does, then go after the fuel. Squirt a little fuel into the cylinder you have open, put the plug back in and crank it to see if you get a little fire going. If you get no spark, then the coil sounds like trouble, it happens, you can get one at a junk yard, or on line, ebay, For a lot less than a new one. hope this helps.
