Having problems with your 1998 Ford Ranger SuperCab ?

In my 1998 Mazda B2500 extended cab, the heater sends out only hot heat on heater settings (as well as on A/C). I have no control on the temperature - it is always high heat. Also, the high heat comes out on A/C. Also, when I set the heater to Max A/C, only the very coldest air comes out, also with no control of the temperature. The directional control works fine.

This truck has an electric air blend door motor that fails but sometimes the shaft though the heater box splits where the blend motor fits it's square peg that turns withthe motor and the plastic shaft with a square hole in the shaft splits open. Under the dash theres two covers that covr the bottom of the dash, with the covers removed and out of the way you can look at the bottom of the heater box and near the middle of the box the motor is hearld to the heater box with two 5/18 in headed screws. with the screws removed tand the electrical connector unplugged the motr will drop down just enough to get it out. watch carefully as the broken part of the shoft will fall out as the motor is removed. I've been able to free up the binding shaft then super glue the peice back together. with the motor off and the wire plugged in and the key on with thheater running you shuld be able to move the control from hot to cold and see the motor move in only moves a quarter of a turn. with the tip of your finger you should be able to turn the shft the motor fits into with your finger if it won't turn or not easy then you might be able to spray blaser into the shafts area afree it up but it has ti turn easy as pie ro it'll break again. if the motor doesnt move then it can be bad or the control is sending power a test light can watch for power hook it to any wire and move the control test all of the wires as the power is only on when the control is moved if the power seems to be working and the motor still doesn't move you willl have to replace the motor junk yards sell them as dothe auto parts stores and at last even the dealer can order one for you, take a pile of money and your VIN if going to the dealer but they'll get you one. The heater has no water valve just the air door. the door shaft can be stuck too bad or the shaft broken too bad and the heater box will have to be removed and disassenbled and the shaft changed for a new one. The junk yards sell the whole heater box with everything in it and the dealer can order just the shaft but the job is not one you should teach yourself you need at least one other person to help anyway and they might as well be someone that's done this kind of dashboard work before. It pays 6.2 hours for a pro experienced mechanic to change the temperture blend door and it's the most involved job in the dash. Be ready to hear $600-1000 to do this job at a pro shop as the airconditiner and the heater all come out as it'sworked on and any bad prts should be replaced when yor in there as the steering collum and all front seat are all out of the car during the job.
This is a very common problem and is caused by a defective air temperature control heater AC control blend door failure, the factory fix requires that you remove the entire dash, a 10 hour job, however there is a kit sold on ebay that allows u to fix the problem in about 1 hour it is called the "Heatertreater" and works on 93'-08' models of Mazda B series, Ford ranger and Ford Explorer, it works with your Mazda, which is a Ford Ranger that has been re-badged and sold by Mazda. here is a link to the kit to fix this, it comes with complete instructions. Remember the Mazda u have is a Ford Ranger, this kit is the right one, the kit cost about the same as replacing the Ford parts (Blend door and Blends door Actuator) with new ones. here is the link to ebay.
