Having problems with your 1998 GMC Sierra ?

How do I remove the air bag from my 1998 GMC?

\015 There is a lot of plastic in the way. I got a manual, but it does not help. I cannot get the molded plastic off of the top of the steering column to replace the windshield wiper/ cruise control/ signal light arm without removing the steering wheel, and I need to remove the air bag to remove the steering wheel.\015 Posted / edited by AnonymousUser on : 28-09-2020

I don't think you have to remove the air bag to access. Did you take the torx head screws out of the bottom of the plastic?
\015\012Word of caution. I don't think this was designed for the average backyard mechanic to service. You'll have to replace the whole lever system all the way back to the wiring harness or cut and splice...which can get ugly. When I tried to get mine apart to replace the same thing, I broke several things trying to get it apart...and wound up replacing the entire steering column. After that I discovered that I had activated the anti theft system that I didn't know existed and had to have the truck towed to a dealership to get the computer reprogrammed. Do a lot more research before you try this or talk to someone who has been successful.
