Having problems with your 1998 Jeep Cherokee ?

The rear lift gate is locked in the down position. The keys that did open the lift gate no longer do so. There are ten (10) screews that hold the interior cover over the door. six (6) of the screws you can get to, the last four (4) it is impossible. How do you open the lift gate when the key no longer works?

Well -- if the key goes into the lock and does not turn anymore, then the lock is most likely gummed up with dirt and debris ,, use a telfon/silicone based lubrication and spray this into the lock and cycle the key in and out a few times -- then spray more lube into the lock and let it sit for awhile,, then spray some more lube into the lock and cycle the key some more and then try and turn the lock.
\015\012now if the lock is turning and the linkage inside is not working and not releasing -- then yes' you have a slight problem here,, and I know that those screws are impossible to get to. there are a couple choices you have -- you can drill out the key lock from the outside and work the linkage manually,, but there is a chance that the linkage is not the problem and the latch will need to be manipulated manually,, so the best way to do this is to take a hole saw and around the latch area drill a hole right on thru the panel and the door skin,, this will give you full access to the latch and you will be able to work the latch and fix the problem,, then after,, just make a nice looking cover plate to cover the hole.
