Having problems with your 1998 Mercury Grand Marquis ?

1998 Mercury Marquis: Battery indicator light blinks in random, unpredictable ways (not all the time), even though battery is good. Could the sensor be old and unreliable? Or would you trust sensor and look for some other cause?

Answers :

The light comes on when the alternator voltage/current is low or if there is a short that is draining the battery. If it's blinking, the voltage is probably near the lower limit of acceptable voltage. Recommend checking voltage at the battery with car running. Should be at least 14 volts. If you don't have a voltmeter, take the alternator off and have it tested at the parts store. Let us know if you have more questions.
