Having problems with your 1998 Mercury Mountaineer ?

Mountaineer rocks and is very sensitive to bumps

\015 When I'm driving, the vehicle is very sensitive to wind and it makes it really heard to drive sometimes - I'm thinking suspension problems, but I have no idea. What do you think needs fixed and how expensive would it be (on average) to fix? My muffler is also coming loose and rattles, I'm guessing it's vibrating when it's touching the axle. How expensive are mufflers to replace? and would I need to replace the whole thing, or just get it fixed where it came loose?\015 Posted / edited by AnonymousUser on : 18-03-2019

Answers :

\015\012First, check tire pressure. That is the bigest thing affecting wandering.
\015\012Next, have a garage check it over like you were going to buy it. Have them tell you what they think needs to be replaced. Don't tell them you own, just looking to buy it. They usually charge an hour ($75). You can point out it seems to be sensitive to winds.
\015\012You can ask how much the repairs would be and decide later what you want to do.
\015\012Tie rod ends at each end of the steering gear, wear out and need replacing at @ 100,000 miles. @ $250.
\015\012You can report back with results and we can give advice on what to replace.
