Having problems with your 1998 Nissan Altima ?

1998 nissan altima. Wont start. Has Battery power, New altinator, full tank, Check engine now light on. Broke down after latest oil change. Mechanic said engine problem. should I go to dealer, or not ? Could it be timing chain?

Could be a timing chain. It would be best to check the compression in each cylinder first. If there is no compression, then you can suspect timing chain.
Usually a check engine light will go off if there is a bad sensor or circuit. Have a code scanner hooked up will tell you what is wrong and will also reset the light. That is your best bet.

If you have a spark tester you can see if there is spark. If not, could be crankshaft position sensor or bad ignition module. If there is good spark, then you have a no fuel problem.
