Starting problems 1998 Nissan Maxima SE V6
\015 Ok. So my car was running well up until 2 weeks ago. At first I had a couple of instances where I would put the key in the ignition but when I would turn it the car would just click instead of turning on. I would remove the key and try again and the car would start up fine. Then one day the car did not want to start. I thought it might be the starter or the ignition and was about to replace the starter when the darn thing turned on again. The terminals to the battery were very corroded so I replaced the worst one. The car would turn on and I could drive it to work without any problems. But when I would leave work the car would not turn on anymore so I had to get a couple of jumpstarts in order to get it going again. But then the other day the car wouldn't start anymore. I tried the jumpstart and the car acted like it needed a new battery, you know the lights would dim everytime i would turn the key and it would just make a tat tat tat sound but nothing would happen. I switched the battery and still had the same problem. This morning the car started with a jumpstart again. But now it won't start again. What's wrong with this car??\015
Hey there, I would look at the switch on tha back of your ignition. Not the ignition it self, but the switch that's on the back of it. Its white round looking thing about 1 1/2 inches in circumference and it has wires coming out of it. I think that its gone. If you are sure, that your battery and battery connections are OK, than look at that switch. Part is replacable at about $50bucks for the part and than if you can put it in your delf, thsm you will save some money there too. Good luck
Its could very well be your altenator. I have a 98 maxima same as yours, and it was giving me problems for a few weeks, i replaced the battery, cables, and so on, and still gave me trouble. Eventually i broke down and replaced the altenator and it works great. You can go to O'rileys(avoid autozone and advance if you can) and they can hook it up and chek it for you.
