Having problems with your 1998 Toyota Avalon ?

How do I access the dash lights for the speedometer and the tachometere? You cannot easily remove the dash. Are they accessible through an air vent?

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Wait at least 90 seconds for models equipped with an air bag.
\015\012\015\012CAUTION\015\012Some models covered by this guide may be equipped with a Supplemental Restraint System (SRS), which uses an air bag. Whenever working near any of the SRS components, such as the impact sensors, the air bag module, steering column and instrument panel, disable the SRS. \015\012\015\012
  1. Remove the fuse box cover from under the left side of the instrument panel. \015\012 \015\012
  2. Remove the heater control knobs. \015\012 \015\012
  3. Using a screwdriver, carefully pry off the heater control panel.
\015\012Fig. Pull the finish panel and disconnect the wiring harness from the back
\015\012Fig. Unscrew the instrument cluster from the dash . . .

  1. Unscrew the cluster finish panel retaining screws and pull out the bottom of the panel. \015\012

Fig. Detach the cluster wiring, you may want to label them prior


Fig. Remove each bulb individually and inspect for replacement

  2. Unplug all electrical harnesses and unhook the speedometer cable. \015\012

  1. Connect the speedometer cable and harnesses. \015\012 \015\012
  2. Position the combination meter and secure into the dash. \015\012 \015\012
  3. Install the cluster finish panel. \015\012 \015\012
  4. Install the heater control panel with the control knobs. \015\012 \015\012
  5. Install the fuse box cover if removed. \015\012 \015\012
  6. Connect the negative battery cable.
