Having problems with your 1998 Toyota Tacoma ?

I had my 1999 Olds Alero Gl 2.4 L in the shop the past 2 days and they replaced the Ignition Lock Cylinder and the Alternator. I drove it home yesterday with no problems...this AM the Battery light on dash is on.

It is one of 3 things. It is either the battery cables are loose or dirty, the new alternator is not putting out. The alternator gets 12 volts from the ignition to excite the alternator. If you have the 12 volts to the alternator, check voltage at your battery before starting and then start the car and check voltage again. The voltage should go up to 13.8 volts or so. If the voltage is not going up then it is the alternator. If you have the 12 volts to excite the alternator. If you are not getting the 12 volts to excite the alternator then it is either the ignition switch or the Engine Control Module. If you don't have a meter to test voltage, you can take the alternator off and take it to Autozone and they will check it for free.
