Fuel Tank Loud Pop Sound On Shutdown

\015 When I turn my 2003 Silverado LS 4x2 Reg Cab off, there is a single POP sound that comes from the Fuel Tank Area. It happens almost every time I shut the key off and wait appx. 15 - 30 seconds. Very embarrising. Can anyone help????\015\012\015\012It is not the heat sheild on the exhaust popping, this is a loud single POP from the tank.\015 Posted / edited by AnonymousUser on : 11-11-2019

I haven't honestly ever heard any thing like this provided it is not a dieseling type effect in which you turn the key off and the engine still fires sporatically for a few seconds and you may have a pop through the exhaust. The only thing I could think to check which may cause this is your carbon/vapor canister which collects/absobs/dissipates excess fuel vapor from your fuel tank. I work primarily in chemical plants and petrochemical refineries and if a tank or pressurized vessal (reactor, tank, etc.) is not vented properly you will sometimes hear a loud popping noise as the fumes/vapors try to expand if there is an influx or increase in its ambient temperature which could relate to your vehicles exhaust system nearby heating it up. That is my best uninformed guess to be honest, let me know what it turns out to be if you would. I don't mind helping others , but I still try to learn more as well in the process.
Just a thought...did you buy a key type gas tank cap...maybe it is defective or the wrong one and does not allow venting properly and the tank pops when pressure is relieved. You could also have a bad evaporative cannister.
