Sounds like a few things might be possible. Number one, your shift cable might need adjusting. Number two, you may have a bad Transmission Range Sensor (also called a Neutral Safety Switch) or it may need to be adjusted. Number three, you may have a Vehicle Speed Sensor that is malfunctioning. To check the TR Sensor or NSS, try to start the vehicle in any gear that is not Park or Neural. If it starts, this is your culprit. You can also check the voltage coming to the sensor. Place your negative lead of your voltmeter to a good ground and the positive lead to the power for the wiring harness with the ignition in the on position. You should get close to battery voltage. You can also check your Vehicle Speed Sensor by removing from the transaxle and connecting a Voltmeter on the AC setting. Spin the sensor and see if you get a pulsing reading. If you don't, you need to replace your VSS.
