99 Durango four wheel drive staying in 4WD and won't shift to 2WD

\015 When we shift from 4WD to 2WD, the light goes out, but it stays in 4WD and then clunks and goes into 2WD. We have shifted on a flat surface, in neutral, reversed, and it still won't shift to 2WD even though the indicator light goes off. We also can't park and try to shift back into 4WD then to 2WD. Drove about 7 miles today (left it in 4WD) and it drove funny (veering to the right) and smelled a burning smell. I pulled over, looked under the hood and checked all the fluids. We just had it to the garage to fix a blown transmission line and when I asked them to check the 4WD problem, they replaced the rear axle and bearings. $700 later (Merry Christmas) it is literally a week since we got it back from the garage and now I'm not sure what to do. Any suggestions? I am an auto-repair- challenged girl worrying about how my husband is going to take the news about today's issue. Thank you and God Bless!\015 Posted / edited by AnonymousUser on : 21-09-2020
