Having problems with your 1999 Ford Contour ?

I have a 1999 Ford Contour. After I drive it for 1 minute, it stalls out or shuts off. It starts back up again and once I drive it another minute or 2 it stalls out/shuts off again. What could be the problem? I have replaced the Catalytic Converter, PVR valve and a computer sensor but it still does it. Does it sound like an emissions problem. If so, what are the list of things that I could need to fix it. The engine and transmission are strong. Thanks, J. Brown

Answers :

My first question is if it stalls at idle or when you let off the gas? if that is the case i would replace the idle air control motor ( or valve ) also if this car has the V6 this car had a major problem with the wiring harness shorting out under the air plemun, the wiring that ford used had a problem with the coatings cracking and falling off that allowed the wires to touch one anther and short out on the intake manifold, there are no good used one out there because they all had the same problem, so if this is the case with your car you will have to either make your own harness of go to ford, the last one i got from ford was $800 so i hope this is not the problem that you have lets hope that is just the idle control motor....good luck
