Having problems with your 1999 Ford Windstar ?

Squealing on the driver's side on a 1998 Ford Explorer

\015 I have a 1998 Ford Explorer V-8 and recently I noticed that whenever I hit a bump in the road, large or small I hear a squeal coming from the driver's side front end. I thought it was the shock but the front doesn't bounce up and down a few times when you give it a good push downward. Any suggestions would be helpful!\015 Posted / edited by AnonymousUser on : 20-01-2020

Perhaps a look at the ball joints and tie rod would be helpful. These are notorius on Fords and particularly on older ones with many miles. Do you have quite a bit of play in the steering wheel when turning it? Another hint.
\015\012If these are worn out, they can be dangerous at higher speeds but I can certainly understand the reluctance to replace these on an older car. I just had mine replaced at ~$1300 (you may do it cheaper yourself) but I plan ot keep my 98 for several more years ... everything is running well so I took the chance.
