Having problems with your 1999 GMC Jimmy ?

I have an '02 TB LT 4X4, I tried to have my transfer case control module flashed at the dealer. Well, that was $135 down the toilet. Can anyone tell me if the new one I plan on getting needs to be flashed or programmed? I've been hearing 2 different stories and I want to be well informed so that I can take it to a trusted mechanic and not the dealer.

I plan on getting an 2003 or newer TCCM from a wrecker and make sure it comes off a truck that has the same size tires and axle ratio as mine does so that I don't have to pay for the programming fee of $95 that my dealer wants to charge me. Also, they wanted $600 for a new one and after labour and taxes the bill would have been $1006.00. Now I can get my local and trusted mechanic to do it for $300 total. It pays off to research these things so that you don't look like a stupid woman with an empty pocket-book at the end of the day. BTW, I can say that 'cause I am a woman.
