1999 Grand Cherokee Radio Wiring Harness Diagram/Color Codes

\015 Hey I was wondering if anyone knows what each\015\012color on the stock radio wiring harness goes to?? I was able to get my\015\012aftermarket jvc deck to turn on but speakers dont play. The previous\015\012owner of my wj snipped the factory harness clips so I have to hook up\015\012the wires manually if you can help me out I'd really appreciate it..\015 Posted / edited by AnonymousUser on : 25-05-2020

Go to www.installdr.com and search through the diagrams in there, the site is easy to use, all you need is acrobat reader installed on your computer to use the site, it has a full explanation on every wire color and what it is
IT is very simple to do without knowing which color is which. You do this by getting a voltmeter from Radioshack, etc.

You Need to find these 3 wires.
12+ Battery (has voltage to it without key in ign)
12+ Accessory (has voltage only when key forward or in acc position)

Once you found these, the others are speaker wires. Turn the stereo on and clip one of them and listen which speaker quits working. Reconnect the clipped wire by stripping off a little bit of insulation and then find its mate. Do this over and over to figure out which speaker wire is which.

There may be a few extra wires if you have steering wheel stereo controls but don't worry about that, just worry about finding each wire I described above and away you go.
\015\012Now in your situation since your harness has been clipped just find the 3 electrical sources, ground, 12+ battery and 12+ accessory the others are speaker wires and just try 2 at a time, it should only take a few minutes to figure out which one is which. Mostly the similar color coded wires are mates...
