Having problems with your 1999 Mercury Cougar ?

Timing belt Heard small engine noise, car stopped like it ran ot of gas. Is this the timing belt? If so is the motor a zero tolerance motor or are the valves shot to and need a new motor

As per the Consumer Guide, the engine 2.5 and 3.0l engines were biult with the timing marks for the cam shafts were in the wrong place and if repalcement timing chains are installed using the marks, engine damage will result.

\015\012take to the dealeer, there is a reacll on this, they will repace the gears and chain.
Not to worry. if timing belt broke your engine is fine. it is an overhead cam engine. although there is a good chance depending on your motor size. that one of the composite sprockets the belt runs on broke also. it is common.
