Having problems with your 1999 Mercury Sable ?

I can't get the alternator out because the serpentine belt is holding it in place. All of the bolts and wires are disconnected or removed but I can't find a way to take the tension off of the belt.

Answers :

You have to take the sepitine belt off. to do that look for a square hole in the tensioner arm and push it as far back as you can with a ratchet or breaker bar and remove belt let it sit till you are ready to put it back on, make sure you have a belt diagram on the radiator core suport or the ait cleaner or underside of the hood, if not and your going ot have your altanator tested ask the parts store to supply you withthe diagrm and componets it has like power steering ac alt. and crank and tensioner assembly.
