Having problems with your 1999 Oldsmobile Cutlass ?

Noise Just sitting when u rev the engine there is a "whirring" sound" that increases/decreases with engine speed. The whirring is not too loud but noticable. Seems it might be related to a power steering pump as it gets a little louder when u turn the wheel. The car is a 1966 Chev Impala with a 283. Tnx

Answers :

It is not the steering pump because you are not moving the wheel it is the idler pulley it might need replacing check to see if the belt is in good condition if it is just use belt dressing on the pully to see if the sound goes away if it does then the idler pulley needs replacing
Ur 283 doesnt have an idler pulley check ur power steering unit fluid may be low or air in pump and alternator (pulley bearing may be going)and check fan if loose possible water pump not many 283 left running around good luck
