Having problems with your 1999 Pontiac Firebird ?

Can't get gas to go in tank, and it will spit out gas

\015 For a few weeks when we pumped gas it took a long time to fill it up, now when I tried to fill the tank up, it would only take like 2 cents at a time, and then it would spit out gas. So I can't get my tank filled up with gas without wasting alot of gas coming out of the tank. What can we do, and how costly is it?\015\012\015\012Whenever I try to pump gas it just spit it back out..I'll get about 10 cents before it spits it out..what causes this and how can it be fixed?\015 Posted / edited by AnonymousUser on : 30-03-2020

Answers :

Every gas tank has a vent tube, so when you fill the tank, air can escape, while the fuel is being pumped into the tank. Some vent tubes are metal, some rubber. Yours is either collapsed or plugged up. Look at the fill tube in the firebird and follow it from the gas cap to the tank, there should be a 2nd smaller tube that is your vent tube. Check to see if it's collapsed, pinched, or bent. This is definitely your problem. Check out this web site for pictures of different fill and vent tubes to get an idea of what to look for. Good luck let me know how you make out. Curt
