Having problems with your 1999 Saab 9-3 ?

Have recently replaced petrol pump in 98 se saab,2wks later,same incident happened,local mechanic says its not petrol pump now,now its immobiliser issue? Could sumbody pls explain this to me,and mechanic wants to get 2nd hand immobiliser,any thoughts please?
