Should hydraulic tensinor be replaced with timing belt - 99 outbk

\015 Should the hydraulic tensinor be replaced at the same time i replace the timing belt on my 99 subaru outback legacy?\015 Posted / edited by AnonymousUser on : 13-08-2018

Answers :

Timing belt replacement on the Subaru engines is quite involved, so replacing the tensioner with a new unit cannot hurt. However, I often re-use the tensioner after inspection and have never had a problem.
Timing belts do no use a hydraulic tensioner, that is only used on engines with internal oil lubricated timing chains.
