Having problems with your 1999 Toyota Avalon ?

Not able to open trunk

\015 I am unable to open the trunk of my 1999 Toyota Avalon. The lever by the driver's seat does not work, although it does have some resistance as if it is still connected to something. The key lock on the trunk itself does not work at all. I have valuable stuff in the trunk and need to get to it fast.\015 Posted / edited by AnonymousUser on : 17-12-2018

Answers :

The release cable is probably slightly stretched and the latch a little dry of lubricant.Have someone **** on the release inside the car while you press the flat of your hand over the area of the latch and use a CPR approach on it, pressing down firmly and releasing again.Doing this a few times will often open trunks and gas fill covers.
Once open, use a lubricant on the latch mechanism, preferably not WD40 since this evaporates. Use another type of more durable oil on it.
Unfortunately, if the cable release needs replaced, this could be pretty involved (= costly).
