Having problems with your 2000 BMW 5 Series ?

Check engine light

\015 I have a 2000 540i with a manual transmission. I took it to get it smogged and it would not pass because of a check engine light. I then paid $190.00 to have a diagnostics run on the car. I was told that the protect check diagnositics revealed:PO443 EVAP emissions and 98 tank vent valve was the codes that came up. I was then told that it would cost another $196.00 to tell me just which sensors were the problem, then there would be an additional charge to replace the faulty parts plus the cost of the parts. How can I find out which parts are faulty without paying the additional $190.00. thanks,Joel\015 Posted / edited by AnonymousUser on : 21-05-2018

Answers :

Check engine light could be on for many reasons. You never know what is wrong.
\015\012You would have to take it to Autozone and ask them to scan it (free).\015\012The only problem is that if there are multiple failure, it can only\015\012show 1 or 2 error code.
\015\012So you may not know if there's MORe problems AFTER you fix the first set of code.
\015\012Good Luck.
