Having problems with your 2000 Cadillac Escalade ?

I have a 2000 cadillac escalade and am getting P0171 and P0174 codes for lean fuel system, what does this mean and what can I attempt to fix?

Basically P0171 this means that an oxygen sensor in bank 1 detected a lean condition (too much oxygen in the exhaust). On V6/V8/V10 engines, Bank 1 is the side of the engine that has cylinder #1. P0174 means Bank 2, the other side of the engine. \015\012
\015\012The MAF (Mass Air Flow) Sensor is dirty or faulty. Note: The use of "oiled" air filters may cause the MAF to become dirty if the filter is over-oiled. There is also an issue with some vehicles where the MAF sensor leak the silicone potting material used to protect the circuitry. \015\012
\015\012There could also be a Vacuum leak downstream of the MAF sensor. \015\012
\015\012In the majority of time, simply cleaning the MAF sensor does the trick. Consult your service manual for it's location if you need help, but the MAF is located along the air intake tube between the air filter box and the throttle body. I find it's best to take it off and spray it with electronic cleaner or Brake cleaner. Make sure you are careful not to damage the MAF sensor, and make sure it's dry before reinstalling. Check the wire leads and look for any damages or loose connection. \015\012
\015\012Inspect all Vacuum and PVC hose and replace your fuel filter to ensure your fuel system is running 100%. \015\012
\015\012Good luck and keep me posted, be glad to know you got your Escalade running 100% again.
