Having problems with your 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier ?

2000 Cav 2.4L DOHC possible lifter tap?

\015 I have a 2000 Chev Cavalier with a 2.4L DOHC that developed a knock/tap. It is definitely top end noise, and the odd thing is it ran just fine with no noise or issues until AFTER I added oil and gas w/injector cleaner. The general consensus is a collapsed lifter. How would I know for sure if I tried to verify myself? And how much would this cost/how hard to repair with just limited knowledge?\015\012\015\012I have found the exact noise I'm facing while scouring YouTube, despite it being a different car and year. That poster says it ended up being a lifter issue as well. I just wanna know.\015 Posted / edited by AnonymousUser on : 21-05-2018

Answers :

If the tapping noise speeds up with the speed of the engine, it's a lifter.
\015\012Being a DOHC, is not an easy job.
