Either your battery or your alternator is faulty. In a repair shop mechanics can measure the charging coming out from the alternator.
1.Check the battery. What month and year was the battery purchased?
Is it past time?
2.Using caution, with the vehicle running check the output of the alternator.
This unit may be bad. Don't have a multimeter? Then perhaps your nearest
auto parts store will check it for you.
3.What is the condition of the serpentine belt? Weather checked? Could be slipping. What about the serpentine belt tensioner? I've seen these go
bad, but look as though they're still putting tension on the belt.
I don't know how far you had to drive home, but I'm guessing it would have
been far enough that if the serpentine belt was broken, you would have
known it. The car would have overheated.
