Having problems with your 2000 Ford F150 Flareside SuperCab ?

My 2000 Ford F150 will not idle

\015 I just recently changed my air filter. First my truck wouldn't idle, then it just wouldn't even start. So, I took it to two different mechanics, and they said it was the idle valve. After seeing grey smoke come out of my exhaust and a weird smell, I did not think it was my valve. So then I went to the auto store and changed my fuel filter. It was so dirty, I thought my problem was fixed. When I started my truck, no problem! Now, two days later, it still won't idle. I checked the filter, and it was fine. Also, sometimes it just won't even turn on. I get that sound when you try starting your truck with no gas. You hear it trying to start, but it doesn't. Then after a few tries, the RPM's go to 1500, then to 0 in seconds. Could there be a clog in my system? If my valve was the problem, why did my truck immediatly start after changing my filter?\015 Posted / edited by AnonymousUser on : 15-07-2019

Here are some possibilities for you Andrew.
When you changed your air filter did some debris get sucked into the intake(such as the plastic wrap on the filter?). If so it may have plugged up the small airway in the idle air control valve. This valve is controlled by the computer to allow airflow around the throttle plate. If it is plugged or even partially plugged it can give you symptoms you describe. These valves are notorious for having problems too.
Also after your air filter there is a devise in the intake snorkel pipe that measures the amount of air going into the engine, this is called a mass airflow sensor (MAF). If the MAF is dirty or debris blocking it off it can also cause weird problems. If the computer senses low air flow it will reduce the amount of fuel going in at the injectors.
Inspect these two things first and see how it works out for you.
