Having problems with your 2000 Plymouth Neon ?

While driving my 2000 Plymouth Neon the front drivers side squeaks, we replaced the serpentine belt and the problem got worse... now every once in awhile the underneath of the car sounds like a cross between a long squeak and a soft grinding. The car also vibrates alot but it HAS gotten a little better since we replaced the belt.

Answers :

Remove the belt and check all the pullies. the should turn freely and shouldn'have any side to side play. With the exception of the power steering pump, it will pull out alittle this is normal. Also check the tensioner, this should move back and forth smoothly and have the same tension all the way. Some to look at before you remove the belt is the alignment of the belt and pullies. They should be strasight with each other. If one looks like it is leaning it is bad. especially the tensioner. It can lean at the pulley and at the mount
