Having problems with your 2000 Subaru Forester ?
Hi, I have a 2000 Subaru Forester and the car seems to spit and cough irregularly at idle. Some times it will not do it for a long time and then other times it will do it all the time. And it also does it badly under load. I have had the spark plugs replace, the injectors serviced and tested and they came back fine. Had the fuel pump pressure checked, with no probs. It sure sounds like you have bad spark plug leads. If they are the original, replace them all. They may not have holes that are visible, but they could still have tiny pinholes and internal breaks in the wire. The only way you can properly test the leads is with a special test tool that measures the running voltage all along the wire (my SnapOn version was $300 about 15 years ago.) . It's cheaper to replace the wires, and if they are original, it's time, anyway.
If you have not done it yet, try changing your fuel filter. It is on under the hood, near the firewall on the drivers side.
