Having problems with your 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier ?

1999 Chevy Cavalier Z24 2.4L cooling fan inoperative

\015 I have a 99 Chevy Cavalier z24, 2.4L. The car starts to overheat slowly meaning that the temperature gauge slowly increases past the mid-point. The fan doesn't want to stay on! It's strange, when the car first starts up(whether it's hot or cold), the fan starts and stays on for about 3 seconds and shuts off. As the car keeps running and warms up, I noticed the temperature gauge going past the mid-point and keeps increasing but the fan doesn't turn on. Could this be a bad ECT sensor?\015 Posted / edited by AnonymousUser on : 06-07-2020

Answers :

Yes you could have a bad ECT or the relay could be bad it sounds more like the relay is heating up and kicking out
Probalby not, seeing that's what's telling your over heating. it wont be a bad idea to remove it (be carefull of hot fluid) and clean it off and put it back in. (wouldn't hurt anyways) but this problem is most likly a falty relay form the PCM to the fans. wireing might be corroed and need to be cleaned. check the fans for power and gorund with an omh meter.
